Teaching Genealogy, Palaeography and related subjects

Bruce Durie Founded and ran the renowned Post Graduate Certificate, Post Graduate Diploma and Masters programs in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) from 2006 to 2011.


As Honorary Fellow at Strathclyde, he is currently working with the Genealogical Studies team to develop a full-time Masters programme. See


University of Edinburgh, Scotland

In addition, Prof. Durie teaches the following campus-based courses at the University of Edinburgh. In 2011-12 these will be:

  • Introduction to Scottish Genealogy (10 classes on Mondays from 24th October 2012 3:00pm - 5:00pm or  6:30pm - 8:30pm)  details

  • Heraldry Hands-On at Edinburgh Castle (one day - Saturday 20 April 2012 10:00am - 4:00pm) details

  • Understanding Scottish Documents from the 16th to 19th centuries - law language purpose and palaeography (10 classes on Mondays from 16th January 2012 at 3:00pm - 5:00pm or 6:30pm - 8:30pm) details
