This website and associated services were founded and managed by
Dr Bruce Durie,
recognised internationally as one of the leading practitioners in the field,
particularly for his teaching,
2013-14, Bruce was honoured by election to the
Internationale de Généalogie, the award of the Companionate of
Merit of the Sovereign and Military Order of St Lazarus Of Jerusalem and
Life Membership of the
Fife Family History Society.
He started and directed
(until September 2011) the much-acclaimed Genealogical, Heraldic and
Palaeographic Studies Programme (leading to Postgraduate Certificate,
Postgraduate Diploma and the Masters degree) at the University of
Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.
As Honorary Fellow at Strathclyde, he is currently working with the
Genealogical Studies team (www.strath.ac.uk/genealogy)
to develop a full-time Masters programme.
teaches courses on Genealogy, Documents and Heraldry for the University of
Bruce is also Shennachie (Genealogist and
historian) to the Chief of Durie (www.duriefamily.co.uk)
, and to the Order of Alba (www.orderofalba.org)
He has authored over
books on family and local history, which include the best-selling
Scottish Genealogy (History Press, 3rd
ed., 2011) as well as volumes on Victorian crime fiction and the internet.
Most recently, these include Documents for Genealogy and Local History - Palaeography, Law and
