 Dr Bruce Durie has been paper bag salesman, bus conductor, research scientist, journalist, Director of the Edinburgh Science Festival, museum director and a senior academic at various universities. He is
Shennachie (Genealogist and Historian) to the Chief of Durie and the Durie Family Association and has a strong interest in DNA research,
helping to set up the Scottish DNA Project (http://www.scottishdna.net/) with Alasdair MacDonald (alasdair@familytreedna.com). He is happy to take on genealogical, family history and other projects on a paid basis:

Originally a biochemist/neuroscientist specialising in sleep research and the biochemical nature of anxiety, he was also a medical and science writer with many articles in publications as diverse as
New Scientist and Vogue. In addition, he has a track record as a senior manager in universities, notably Kingston, Napier and the University of Strathclyde, where he
established, managed and delivered the Professional Postgraduate programme in Genealogical,
Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies, up to Masters level
He also teaches popular courses on Genealogy,
Heraldry and Documents at the University of Edinburgh, where he is a Teaching
Fellow (https://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/short-courses).
Bruce now concentrates mainly on teaching and researching in genealogy, and on writing books. His series for 'How To Books' were international best sellers; his local history books have a strong local market; his collections of detective stories are widely acclaimed; and his comic fantasy novels have a cult following

http://www.brucedurie.co.uk/books.html). His 'Scottish Genealogy' is an international best-seller and his series for BBC Radio Scotland 'Digging Up Your Roots'

and he regularly takes part in TV shows for Verborgen Verleden, the Dutch
incarnation of Who Do You Think You Are.
Bruce frequently visits the
USA, and in 2015-16 was the
Fulbright Senior Scottish Studies Scholar, spending most of a year researching
early Scottish migrations into Colonial America.

He has Right of
Audience at the Court
of the Lord Lyon, and may Petition on behalf of those wishing to achieve a
legal Coat of Arms in Scotland, or elsewhere.
Born in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland, ancestral home of the Duries, Bruce now lives in
Aberdeen, Scotland.
